The Terrain Process

From a site visit to construction-ready, in six measured stages.

Every project we deliver moves through the same six stages. The documentation is consistent, the responsibility is clear, and the tolerance is set on the machine — not in the foreman's notebook.

Stage 01

Site Visit

We walk the ground with you, the architect or the engineer — whoever is closest to the design intent. Access, geology, drainage, neighbouring structures and the questions plans never answer get noted on the spot.

  • Site walk with project lead
  • Access and staging review
  • Existing services and constraints
  • Photographic record

Stage 02

Survey & Planning

Topographic survey, soil assessment and cut-to-fill modelling. The result is a plan with numbers, not estimates — and the price that comes back to you is the price you pay.

  • Topographic and drone survey
  • Cut-to-fill model and haul plan
  • Drainage and utilities coordination
  • Programme and milestones

Stage 03

Earthworks

GPS-guided bulk excavation, executed by operators with decades on the controls. The cut matches the model — no surprises in the spoil pile, no late-stage variations.

  • GPS base and machine calibration
  • Bulk dig in lifts to design
  • Continuous QA against the model
  • Spoil management and on-site reuse

Stage 04

Drainage & Utilities

Stormwater, sub-soil and service runs bedded to fall, photographed and signed off before backfill. The as-built drawing matches what's actually in the ground.

  • Laser-set trench falls
  • Bedding, lay and joint test
  • Photo log and as-built mark-up
  • Granular surround and compaction

Stage 05

Final Trim

Laser-trimmed final surface to ±10mm against the engineer's model. Slabs pour without adjustment. Landscape build starts on the published levels.

  • Design surface to machine controllers
  • Laser-trimmed final pass
  • Surveyor spot-check
  • Compaction test and proof-roll

Stage 06

Project Completion

Site handed over with as-built records, drainage plans, compaction certificates and a clean working surface. Quiet, on time, and ready for the next trade.

  • As-built survey and drawings
  • Drainage and compaction records
  • Site walk with the next trade
  • Defects-free handover
